AN easy-to-miss Sky TV trick lets you skip right past those boring ads.

It's built right into your Sky TV remote – but it's not the most obvious.

Many Sky TV remotes now have voice controls built in.

This has a long list of benefits, including the ability to quickly launch apps or find specific channels.

But it also lets you quickly control playback on your TV.

It's not wildly useful if you're watching live, but it has a big benefit if you're viewing pre-recorded content.

That's because you can ask it to skip a certain amount of time.

So you could say "skip three minutes" and you'd shoot forward through the TV show.

It's an extremely easy way to skip an entire ad break without having to manually fast-forward.

You can also skip to a specific time in a show too, all with a voice command.

Using the Sky voice controls are really easy too.

First, check to see if your Sky remote has a microphone button: that means it can accept voice commands.

Now hold the Sky remote in front of you, then press and hold the microphone button.

The actual microphone itself is located just below the Sky button, so that's where you'll want to speak into.

Once you're done speaking, let go of the voice button and your request will be processed.

You can say things in several ways, so you could say "skip three minutes", "fast forward two minutes", "skip ahead by four minutes", and so on.

Here are some easy commands to try out...

Search for specified movie - "[Movie title]"

Search for specified programme - "[Programme title]"

Search for content which stars specified actor - "[Actor name]"

Search for content directed by specified director - "[Director name]"

Search for movies within specified genre - "[Movie genre]"

Search for sport content within specified genre. Genres include football, F1, Rugby Union, Cricket, and Rugby League - "[Sport genre]"

Search specific channel - "[Channel name]"

Search for movies with a specific star rating - "[x] star movies" "movies rated [x] stars"

Search for content with specified picture format. Picture format includes SD, HD, and Ultra HD - "[Picture format]"

Search for sports, teams or competitions – “[Sport Name]”, “[Team Name]”, “[Competition Name]”

Rewinding also works the same way, although it's less useful.

Sky also recommends trying out the following tricks:

Similarly, if you've found yourself with subtitles turned on by accident, you can quickly switch them off with a simple voice command.

Searching for content with iconic movie or TV quotes is one of the best uses for Sky's voice remote.

That's because you can quickly find a famous film that you're thinking of, even if you can't remember its name.

Here's a list of some of the quotes that work:

It's worth noting that a movie will only appear for its quote if the film is currently available in Sky's library.
