CSI Energy Storage, which is part of CSI Solar Co. Ltd., a majority-owned subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. has executed a supply agreement with Unibal for the delivery of battery storage system in the United Kingdom. Unibal is a joint venture between Union Group and Capbal Limited and focuses on the acquisition, origination, construction and operation of renewable generation and energy storage assets across the UK.
As per the terms of the supply agreement, the delivery is for two projects with a combined capacity of 40 MWh. The projects are slated to achieve commercial operation by the first quarter of 2024. CSI Energy Storage will be responsible for delivering its SolBank battery energy storage systems and overseeing the complete integration and commissioning process for the projects. Additionally, it will also provide ongoing support and maintenance for the projects.
The UK's battery storage market has witnessed remarkable expansion, presenting substantial opportunities to facilitate the nation's transition towards a low-carbon future and achieve the government's net-zero targets by 2050. These projects will play a crucial role in advancing the seamless integration of renewable energy sources, empowering grid operators to strike a balance between supply and demand. Consequently, they will also make the grids more reliable and stable.
With the execution of this agreement, CSI Energy Storage will deliver 779 MWh of energy storage solutions to multiple projects across the United Kingdom. Currently, CSI Energy Storage's cumulative deployment of battery energy storage solutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China amounts to approximately 2.7 GWh. Furthermore, as of March 31, 2023, the total pipeline of CSI Energy Storage has reached an impressive capacity of nearly 22.8 GWh.
Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar, said, "Leading renewable energy companies across the world, including Unibal, trust CSI Energy Storage to provide best-in-class energy storage systems. The UK is a major market for energy storage, and CSI Energy Storage is proud to grow our work there through this partnership."
