(June 1st-4th) A-Main hobbies silver dollar RC Raceway in Chico is hosting the fastest radio controlled off road car racers from the US and Canada.

CHICO, Calif. - This weekend is the qualifying events for the national and world radio-controlled car racing championships.

Some of the best RC racers in the world are competing in Chico for the 2023 Roar Fuel Offroad 1:8 scale National Championships.

Three hundred people will be racing for two national titles given for nitro buggy and nitro truggy remote cars.

Racers are in 10-minute heats, trying to get their fastest possible times to advance.

Ryan Mayfield, A two-time world champion in RC cars, said the cars have to take a pit stop to refuel and make certain adjustments to the track conditions.

"There's a lot of settings, a lot of different tire options, a lot of engine options how you tune them, clutches, other things you play with, so finding the balance your comfortable with to drive the same laps for an hour, its difficult but that's everybody's job," Mayfield said.

Troy Hanson, a brand developer for A-Main-Hobbies, said this event is for everyone, people who enjoy competitive racing or even those who just want good entertainment.

"If you just like watching racing, it's all the same action, just a smaller package. It's all right in front of you. Everything is fan friendly. You can interact with the racers close to the action. You’re not going to get hurt," Hanson said.

This is A-Main Hobbies’ second time presenting this specific event and once for the 2013 IFMAR world championships.

Hanson said it's a world-class facility that is welcoming the best of the best in remote car racing.

There are 42 heats today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The main events are on Sunday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The A-Main championship will be a 60-minute race for the national title for nitro buggy and a 45-minute race for nitro truggy.

The top 30 finishers will qualify for the 2024 world championship in Brazil.
